Abstract

This study aims to elucidate how anticipated climatic conditions—namely, increased temperature, reduced precipitation, and their combined occurrence—will influence the effects of Carpobrotus edulis invasion on soil properties and the availability of macro- and micronutrients. Such knowledge is essential for developing strategies to mitigate the ecological impacts of C. edulis under changing climatic regimes. As most alterations in soil appear to be mediated by necromass, an accelerated growth rate of C. edulis under warmer conditions could amplify its influence on soil, resulting in substantial changes to nutrient dynamics and overall soil composition. Consequently, this research examines changes in soil chemical characteristics within the topsoil (0–5 cm) and subsoil (5–10 cm)—the layers most affected by necromass and plant roots, respectively—under projected climate scenarios.
